How a visit goes

From picking a spot at home to earning its badge on the church steps.

    Pick a spot

    Browse by town or by category: churches, historical sites, festivals and nature. Bookmark the ones you want to see before you leave the house.

    Follow the route

    LibotBulacan draws the way from where you are, with the distance and the time it takes. Arrive and the visit counts on its own: points and a line in your trip history.

    Look around in AR

    At heritage sites, LibotBulacan leads you to 3D models placed around the real spot. Tap one and it tells you a piece of the place’s story. Find them all to finish the spot’s AR mission.

    The name “Barasoain” is said to come from Barásoain, a town in Navarre, Spain.

    On Android, AR needs Google Play Services for AR, which only some phones have; on iPhone it uses Apple’s ARKit. Everything else works on any phone with Android 7.0 or iOS 15.1 or newer.

    Do the Bakit List

    Every spot has its own list. Finish a spot’s list to earn its badge. Points put you on the leaderboard.

    • Must-Dos Getting there and its AR. These are worth the most points.
    • Side Trips A photo the app checks with AI, and a food spot nearby. They add more.

On Android you install the APK yourself: it takes about a minute, and the steps are right below. On iPhone you install it through Apple’s TestFlight.

Installing it

On Android, your phone asks a few questions the first time you install an app from outside the Play Store. All of them are normal.

  1. Download the file

    Tap the download button. Chrome warns that “This type of file can harm your device”. It says that for every APK. Choose Download anyway.

  2. Let your browser install apps

    Open the downloaded file. If Android says installs from this source are blocked, tap Settings and turn on Allow from this source. You only do this once.

  3. Install and open

    Tap Install. Play Protect may offer to scan the app first; let it. Then open LibotBulacan and sign up.

    Stopped with “App not installed” or another error? What each message means.

Updating from an older build? Install straight over it. Your account, badges and trip history live on the server, so nothing is lost.

On an iPhone? Install Apple’s free TestFlight app from the App Store, open our TestFlight link, then tap Accept and Install.

What LibotBulacan asks for, and why

Notifications and location are asked for right after you sign in, with a note on why before your phone’s own prompt. The camera is asked for the first time you open AR or a photo mission. Say no and the rest of the app keeps working.

Location
Shows spots near you, draws the route there, and notices when you arrive so the visit counts.
Location all the time optional
Only if you choose it. LibotBulacan then also notices nearby spots and arrivals while it’s closed, and shows a “LibotBulacan is tracking your location” notification the whole time. Pick “While using the app” to skip this.
Camera
Runs the AR, takes the photo the AI checks for a spot’s photo mission, and your profile picture if you take a new one.
Notifications
A “You arrived!” alert when you reach a spot, and a heads-up when you’re near one you haven’t visited. Turn them off in your phone’s settings whenever you like.

LibotBulacan never asks for your contacts. Choosing a profile picture from your gallery uses Android’s photo picker; on Android 12 and older that can show a one-time storage prompt. The details are in the Privacy Policy.

Questions

Is LibotBulacan free?

Yes. Free to download and free to use, with no ads and nothing to buy.

Why isn’t it on the Play Store?

For now LibotBulacan is published here, directly, as an APK. Download it only from this page. Every release is signed with the same key, so updates install over it.

Is it safe to install an APK?

An APK is the same file format the Play Store installs. The difference is that you are vouching for the source instead of Google. Download it from this page only, not from a copy someone sends you, and let Play Protect scan it when it offers.

Is there an iPhone version?

Yes. Install Apple’s free TestFlight app from the App Store, open our TestFlight link, then tap Accept and Install. It needs iOS 15.1 or newer, and TestFlight tells you when an update is ready.

My phone says AR isn’t supported.

On Android, the AR spots need Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which only some phones ship with. On iPhone they use Apple’s ARKit. Routes, missions, badges and bookmarks work on any phone running Android 7.0 or iOS 15.1 or newer.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes. Spots, missions and your progress all come from the LibotBulacan server, so you need mobile data or Wi-Fi while you are out.

Will I lose my progress when I update?

No. Your account, badges, bookmarks and trip history are stored on the server, not on the phone. On Android, install the new APK over the old one and sign back in. On iPhone, update from TestFlight.

Does LibotBulacan track my location?

Only to do what you see it doing: show nearby spots, draw routes and notice when you arrive. With “While using the app” that happens only while LibotBulacan is open. If you choose “Allow all the time” (“Always” on iPhone), it also checks for arrivals while closed, and Android shows a “LibotBulacan is tracking your location” notification for as long as it does. You can change this in your phone’s settings at any time.

I have an idea for LibotBulacan.

Use Contact us: a feature you would like, a spot we should add, something broken, something to change. It writes an email to the developers at support@libotbulacan.com, which you send from your own email.
